Webcam Tester

Check that your webcam works with a live in-browser preview. See the resolution and frame rate it's running at, switch between cameras if you have more than one, and mirror the image. Nothing is recorded or uploaded - the video stays on your device and access is released the moment you stop.

Your camera preview shows up here. Nothing is recorded or uploaded - the video never leaves your device.

This runs entirely in your browser using the camera API. The preview is live, but no frame is ever sent to a server, saved, or recorded. Stop the camera or close the tab and access is released right away.

What this tool does

Click Start camera and your browser asks for permission, then shows a live preview from your webcam. Once it's running you can read the resolution and frame rate the camera is sending, switch to another camera if you have more than one connected, and flip the mirror on or off. Stop the camera and the access is handed straight back.

Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere

The preview is drawn straight from the camera into the page. No frame is saved, recorded, or uploaded to any server, so it's safe to use before a call or while setting up a new camera. Closing the tab or hitting Stop turns the camera light off right away.

When you'd use it

  • Confirming a new webcam works before a meeting
  • Checking the lighting and framing of your shot
  • Working out which camera a 'Camera 1 / Camera 2' picker maps to
  • Diagnosing whether a black video call is the camera or the app
