Microphone Tester

Check that your microphone works with a live input-level meter right in the browser. Watch the bar move as you talk, see the peak it reached, read the sample rate and channel count, and switch between mics if you have more than one. Nothing is recorded or uploaded - the audio stays on your device and access is released the moment you stop.
Input level-

Start the mic and the bar reacts to what it hears. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.

This runs entirely in your browser using the microphone and Web Audio APIs. The level meter reads the live signal, but no audio is ever recorded, saved, or sent to a server. Stop the mic or close the tab and access is released right away.

What this tool does

Click Start microphone and your browser asks for permission, then a live meter shows how loud your mic is picking things up. Talk, tap the desk, or play some sound and the bar reacts in real time. Once it's running you can read the sample rate and channel count, see the loudest peak it caught, and switch to another microphone if you have more than one connected.

Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere

The meter reads the live audio signal straight in the page using the Web Audio API. No sample is saved, recorded, or uploaded to any server, so it's safe to use before a call or while setting up a new mic. Closing the tab or hitting Stop releases the microphone right away.

When you'd use it

  • Confirming a new microphone or headset works before a meeting
  • Checking the mic isn't muted at the hardware level
  • Working out which input a 'Microphone 1 / Microphone 2' picker maps to
  • Diagnosing whether nobody can hear you because of the mic or the app
